Self-guided walking tours in Braşov

Brașov's old town is compact and made for walking; the two ready walks here cover the walled core, Șchei, and the foot of Tâmpa. For anything farther out, public buses and taxis are easy, and a car is more of a burden than a help inside the center.

Late spring to early autumn gives you long days, open terraces, and the fullest museum and cable car hours. Winter is colder but brings the Christmas market and quieter streets. April to October is the window when the Black Church stays open until 19:00.

Walk inside the old town. Buses and taxis cover the rest of the city, and the train and bus stations connect the center to the wider region. Ride hailing apps work, and taxis are metered.

Brașov uses the Romanian leu. Cards work in museums, hotels, and most restaurants, but keep a little cash for small vendors, markets, and tips.

One full day covers the walled core, Șchei, and the Tâmpa summit. Give it two days if you want to add the city's smaller museums, a slower lunch, and a half day trip to the villages or the mountains around the city.

The center of Brașov is safe and stays lively into the evening, especially along Strada Republicii and Piața Sfatului. Take the usual care with your phone and wallet in crowds, and stick to lit streets late at night.
