How do you spend one day in Sibiu on foot?
Sibiu's old town is a one-day walk that works best when you follow the squares in order. Start in Piața Mare at the Brukenthal National Museum when it opens at 10:00, climb the Council Tower for the roof view, cross the Bridge of Lies into Piața Huet, and finish at the Altemberger House before its last ticket at 17:15. Four of the six stops are interiors and two of them are tower climbs, so this is a day for stopping, not rushing. Time it for Wednesday through Sunday, because the main museums close on Monday and Tuesday and the Brukenthal Palace also shuts on the first Tuesday of each month. Buy individual tickets instead of the 120 lei pass, and keep the evening for dinner in Piața Mică.

Start at the Brukenthal National Museum in Piața Mare when it opens at 10:00. The baroque palace holds the city's strongest painting collection, so give the European Art Gallery real time. Then climb the Council Tower, the seven-storey clock tower that links Piața Mare and Piața Mică, and stand on its balcony above the old roofs before the square fills up.

Planning your day

Not if you want the interiors. The Brukenthal Palace, the Pharmacy Museum, and the Altemberger House close on Monday and Tuesday, and the Palace also closes on the first Tuesday of each month. Plan the day for Wednesday through Sunday.
SourceSibiu County Tourism, The Brukenthal MuseumDo I need to buy museum tickets in advance?

SourceBrukenthal National Museum ticket pricesWhere should I eat along the route?
Stop for lunch in Piața Mică at Crama Sibiul Vechi or for coffee at Cafe Wien on Piața Huet. End with dinner at La Cuptor on Strada 9 Mai, which serves bone marrow, steak, and Romanian dishes until 23:00.
SourceWikivoyage, SibiuIs this route good in winter?
Yes. The squares and the Bridge of Lies are open year-round, and the Brukenthal museums switch to Wednesday to Sunday hours in winter with the same 10:00 to 18:00 opening. The cathedral tower stays open daily, but its stairs are steep, so leave icy days for the ground-level stops.
