How do you spend one day in Seattle on foot?
One day in Seattle, routed from the market to the bay and up to the view that made the skyline famous. Start at Pike Place Market before the crowds, follow the new Overlook Walk down to Elliott Bay, then climb through Belltown to Seattle Center for the Space Needle and Chihuly, and finish at Kerry Park as the lights come on. You will time the paid sights for their quieter hours, eat where locals eat, and know exactly what to book in advance. It works in any season, and the sunset at Kerry Park is at its best when Mount Rainier is out.

Pike Place and the new waterfront
Start at Pike Place Market as the stalls open and before the crowds arrive, while the fish throwers warm up. When the Seattle Art Museum opens at 10 a.m., walk down First Avenue to the galleries, then come back to the market's west side and take the Overlook Walk down to the bay. Go into the aquarium's Ocean Pavilion next, and end the block at Pier 62.

Olympic Sculpture Park and lunch
From Pier 62, follow the waterfront north to the Olympic Sculpture Park and wander the outdoor sculptures on the old oil site. Lunch at the Seattle Center Armory food hall on the fairgrounds, then ease into the afternoon.

Seattle Center: Space Needle, Chihuly, MoPOP
Spend the afternoon on the 1962 World's Fair grounds. The Space Needle, Chihuly Garden and Glass, and MoPOP all surround the International Fountain, so pick your paid stops. If you want two, the Space Needle and Chihuly combo saves money. Book a timed Space Needle entry before you go, then finish at the fountain when its water dome runs to music.

Kerry Park at sunset
Save Kerry Park for the last light. Climb Queen Anne Avenue North and West Highland Drive to the small lawn where the Space Needle, downtown, Elliott Bay, and Mount Rainier line up. The park is free and open until 10 p.m., and the sunset crowd thins as the ferries light up the bay.

Planning your day
How early should I start this itinerary?
Start at Pike Place Market by 8 a.m., when the produce and seafood stalls are open and the fish throwers are at their liveliest. The market fills up by late morning, and the aquarium and museums are quieter before noon.
Do I need to book anything in advance?
Book the Space Needle and the Seattle Aquarium online. Both use timed entry, and popular slots sell out on weekends and in summer. The Space Needle assigns a 15 minute arrival window, and the aquarium recommends reserving your entry time before you arrive.

Yes. The route is walkable, with one steady climb from Seattle Center up to Kerry Park at the end. If you want to cut the climb, the monorail links Westlake Center to Seattle Center, and buses run along Queen Anne Avenue.
