How do you spend one day in Boston on foot?
This routed day links three of Boston's best walking tours into one continuous line: Beacon Hill and the Public Garden in the morning, the downtown Freedom Trail through the middle of the day, and the North End out to Charlestown by evening. Most of the day is free to walk; the paid stops are the Old State House, the Paul Revere House, and Old North Church.

Planning your day
How much does this one-day Boston itinerary cost?
Budget roughly $70 to $90 per person. The Old State House is $15 for adults, the Paul Revere House is $6, and Old North Church's Discovery Pass is $10, so the paid sites total about $31. Everything else on the route is free, and you add lunch, coffee, a cannoli, and a $2.40 subway ride or two.
SourceNational Park ServiceMBTADo I need to book anything in advance?
Book the Museum of African American History timed entry and, if you want it, Old North Church's bell chamber tour ahead of time. The State House tour is free but runs by appointment. Everything else on the route, including the Old State House, Paul Revere House, USS Constitution, and Bunker Hill Monument, is walk-up.
SourceNational Park ServiceOld North ChurchWhat should I wear for this walk?
Wear comfortable shoes you can walk in all day, and bring layers. Boston weather turns fast, the North End and Charlestown sit open to the harbor wind, and the Bunker Hill climb is 294 tight steps, so skip it if you are unsteady on stairs.
Can I split this route over two days?
Yes. The day maps to three of the city's ready walks: Beacon Hill and the Public Garden, the Downtown Freedom Trail, and the North End to Bunker Hill. Do Beacon Hill and downtown on day one, then the North End and Charlestown on day two, and you can linger at each stop instead of moving.
